ANTIPHON: Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me Bless God’s holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. Who forgives all your sings, and heals all your infirmities Who redeems your life from the grave and crowns you with mercy and lovingkindness; Who satisfies you with good things, and renews your youth like the eagle's; ANTIPHON The Lord works vindication and justice for all who are oppressed. He made his ways known to Moses and his works to the children of Israel. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy, slow to anger and full of great kindness. He will not always accuse us, nor will he keep his anger forever. God has not dealt with us according to our sings, nor rewarded us according to our wickedness. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so is God's mercy great upon those who fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has God removed our sings from us. As a father cares for his children, so does the Lord care for those who fear him. For God knows ho we were made, he remembers that we are dust; ANTIPHON Our days are like the grass; we flourish like a flower of the field; when the wind goes over it, it is gone, and its place shall know it no more. But the merciful goodness of the Lord endures forever on those who fear him, and his righteousness on children's children. on those who keep his covenant and remember his commandments and do them. ANTIPHON The Lord has set his throne in heave, and his kingdom rules over all. Bless the Lord, O you his angels, you might ones who do his bidding, and hearken to the voice of his word. Bless the Lord, all you his hosts, you ministers of God that do his will. Bless the Lord, all you works of his, in all places of his dominion; bless the Lord, O my soul. ANTIPHON
33.
Let the words of my mouth and my heart’s medication (repeat) Be right in your sight! Be right in your sight? (repeat) For you, O Lord are my SOLID ROCK! For you are the one WHO SETS ME FREE! MY SOLID ROCK! MY SOLID ROCK! WHO SETS ME FREE! WHO SETS ME FREE! MY SOLID ROCK! MY SOLID ROCK! WHO SETS ME FREE! WHO SETS ME FREE!

L: Teach me, O God, C: To do your will L: For you are my God! C: For you are my God! L: Lead me, with your Spirit, on a level path C: Guide me on an even street.
36.
ANTIPHON: L: Restore us, O God C: Let your face shine, that we may be saved Let your face shine that we might be saved Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock! You are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh. Stir up your might, and come save us! ANTIPHON O LORD God of hosts, How long will you be angry with your people’s prayers? You have fed them with the bread of tears, and given them tears of drink in full measure. You make us the scorn of our neighbors; our enemies laugh among themselves. ANTIPHON You brought a vine out of Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it. You cleared the ground for it; it took deep root and filled the land. The mountains were covered with its shade; the mighty cedars with its branches; it sent out its branches to the sea, and its shoots to the River. Why then have you broken down its walls, so that all who pass along the way pluck its fruit? The boar from the forest ravages it, and all that move in the field feed on it. ANTIPHON Turn again, O God of hosts; look down from heaven, and see; have regard for this vine, the stock that your right hand planted. They have burned it with fire, they have cut it down; may they perish at the rebuke of your countenance. But let your hand be upon the one at your right hand, the one whom you made strong for yourself. Then we will never turn back from you; give us life, and we will call on your name. ANTIPHON

about

37 New Musical and Rhythmical Psalm Settings for Congregational Worship

From the Foreword to the accompanying book:

Psalms...
The use of palms in public worship which as been standard for some and nearly unknown to others, is now experiencing a resurgence of interest. I believe this is healthy for the 150 songs in the psalter contain reference to nearly every imaginable human emotion from ecstasy to fever-pitched rate, joyful hope to the depths of despair. Becoming steeped in these "God Words" can equip any follower of this discipline with words appropriate for most any situation. Although some worship planners have deemed certain of the psalms "inappropriate for public worship," one lesson the Psalms teach is that if we can fully grieve, lament, pout and grouse, we can also freely praise.

...to Sing...
Originally the hymnbook of Israel, and from some Christian traditions still the only music seen as appropriate for worship, the Psalter has also served as an educational tool for young and old alike. Our Hebrew ancestors recognized the importance of repetition and familiarity as the way to instill and embrace a faith-full identity. Rhythm and rhyme are key educational tools in traditional and indigenous cultures. Martin Luther and the other reformers further understood the important role of singing in helping beleaguered people soak up a new identity and wrote their appeal to "grace alone" in their songs. African slaves, kept illiterate by design, were able fashion methods of passing on their hope-filled faith through the changes, moans, spirituals and Gospel that they created. Rhythm and rhyme, giving living witness to the Holy Spirit's work in each age!

...& Sway by
When studying the original language of the psalms I learned that Hebrew poetry doesn't always rhyme, but it does have rhythm. Concluding that King David was the first "rapper," I endeavored to set 15 psalms to rhythmic, rhyming accompaniment. These have been received most enthusiastically by people of all ages.

Happy Are They!
The settings in this collection ahve their origin in the crucible of an innercity parish. prepared for our annual 5-week Summer Youth Program, special worship services and retreats, private devotions and even lullabyes for my children, the 37 settings in "Happy Are They..." are another step in the direction of retrieving and overlooked pearl of great price. May they equip your devotion, worship, study and spiritual growth!

Steve Eulberg Boise, Idaho

I stand within the tradition of handmade, acoustic,
home-grown music, giving life to old songs and
tunes and songs by passing them on while creating
new ones to add to the mix.

I use the vibrations of wood and string, playing and singing traditional songs and fiddle tunes; weaving
together Celtic, Old-time, blues and jazz to create “Smile-inducing, toe-tapping, thought-provoking
folkgrass.”
